About Task Ant
Task Ant is a free hashtag generator and Instagram guide site. The tools run in your browser with no sign-up, and every hashtag page and guide is written from our own research, checked against official sources and reviewed by a named editor before it's published.
What Task Ant does
Task Ant helps people choose better hashtags and understand how Instagram actually works. The site has three parts:
- Free tools. The hashtag generator builds ready-to-paste sets from our own curated database. There's also a banned hashtag checker and a caption and hashtag counter. All of them are listed on the free tools page.
- A hashtag directory. About 100 niche hashtag pages, each with hand-picked tags grouped by competition (broad, mid and niche) and ready-made sets for Instagram, TikTok and YouTube Shorts.
- Guides. Plain-language explainers and step-by-step walkthroughs, collected in the blog and sorted into topics such as hashtag strategy and account privacy and safety.
What Task Ant is not
A few things we deliberately don't do:
- We don't ask for your Instagram login. No tool here needs your username or password, and we never recommend third-party apps that do.
- We don't sell followers, likes or "growth packages", and we don't run paid placements or affiliate links.
- We aren't Instagram. Task Ant isn't affiliated with or endorsed by Instagram, Meta, TikTok or YouTube.
- We don't show hashtag usage counts. Instagram doesn't offer a public API for hashtag post counts, so any exact number would be a guess. Our tiers are editorial judgement, and the methodology page explains how we make that call.
- There are no accounts. You don't sign up, and there's nothing to log in to.
The history of taskant.com
The taskant.com domain has had three lives, and it's worth being clear about which one this is.
| Period | What was on taskant.com | Who ran it |
|---|---|---|
| 2010 to 2015 | "TaskAnt", a team to-do list web app. The service closed in 2015, and user accounts were closed in November 2015. | XMind Ltd |
| Late 2020 to about 2022 | "Task Ant ๐", an Instagram hashtag generator and blog | A different, unrelated owner |
| 2022 to 2026 | The domain lapsed | None |
| 2026 onward | Task Ant, a free hashtag tool and Instagram guide site (this site) | The current owners |
The current Task Ant is not affiliated with XMind or with the 2020 to 2022 operators. We don't have access to data from either earlier site, including old to-do app accounts. When we relaunched in September 2026, we wrote every page from scratch and redirected old links to the closest matching new page. If an old bookmark lands somewhere unhelpful, let us know.
How our content is made
Instagram changes often. In the past year alone it capped posts and Reels at five hashtags, so accuracy is the main thing we work on:
- Facts, limits and steps are checked against official sources first: Instagram's Help Center, Meta's transparency pages, and TikTok's and YouTube's own help docs.
- Every page has a named author and a named reviewer, and shows the date it was last updated.
- Hashtag pages are checked at least quarterly. How-to guides are re-verified whenever Instagram changes the feature they cover.
- AI-assisted drafting may be used, but no page is published, or updated, until an editor has fact-checked and reviewed it.
- Mistakes are fixed openly and logged on the corrections page.
The full standards are in our editorial policy. How hashtag sets are built is covered in the methodology.
